Hi, I'm Emma.

I'm a figurative oil painter based in New York City. My work explores the complexities of womanhood through contemporary interpretations of classical painting. Vibrant pink worlds, feminine motifs and the language of storytelling.

I'm fascinated by duality: the way power and sexuality can sit alongside beauty, softness and traditionally girly traits. Figures, clothing, costume and stage-like poses let me explore those sides of identity. A little like a game of dress-up.

My background in painting, art history and education taught me to look closely at both the traditions behind a painting and the choices that make it feel contemporary and personal. That's what I love sharing: using the language of classical painting to make work that's uniquely yours.
